Because US laws cannot protect the country from cyber espionage as recently seen from the recent DOJ allegations against Chinese military hackers, the US government and military will likely turn to digital contractors to disrupt international hacking operations. This upcoming trend parallels closely with Blackwater’s rise following the start of the War on Terror. Likewise, cybersecurity contractors, such as Mandiant and CrowdStrike, will see an influx of major government contracts. As opposed to Blackwater whose operations were more one-dimensional, cyber contractors operate in a complex environment with many different actors from different countries. This fact makes them extremely valuable to the US government and major companies who deal in the borderless digital theater.
