Polish authorities managed to prevent any power outage, but the incident exposed critical vulnerabilities.

Poland’s Minister of Digital Affairs, Krzysztof Gawkowski, confirmed on January 13, 2026, that a cyberattack attributed to Russia had targeted the country’s power grid in late December 2025. A few days earlier, the Minister of Energy, Miłosz Motyka, had indicated that several Polish power plants had been targeted by an attempted cyber intrusion.

“Everything indicates that we are dealing with Russian sabotage. This is an attempt to destabilize Poland,” Krzysztof Gawkowski accused. According to the Minister of Digital Affairs, the country came “very close to a blackout,” with the attack being the most significant ever carried out against its power grid. The incident did not result in any power outages but highlighted the “potential vulnerability” of the national energy system.

Krzysztof Gawkowski nevertheless urged the public “not to panic,” stating that Polish institutions are, in his view, “well prepared” to thwart this type of cyberattack
