On January 7, 2026, U.S. President Donald J. Trump signed a Presidential Memorandum directing the United States to withdraw from 66 international organizations, including 35 non-UN bodies and 31 United Nations entities, deemed contrary to U.S. national interests.

According to the White House, these organizations undermine American sovereignty, security, and economic prosperity, while inefficiently consuming taxpayer funds. The administration argues that many promote global governance agendas, radical climate policies, or ideological programs misaligned with U.S. priorities.

The move follows earlier withdrawals from the World Health Organization, the Paris Climate Agreement, the UN Human Rights Council, and the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA). The White House states that the decision is intended to reduce spending, refocus resources on domestic priorities, and reinforce the administration’s America First foreign policy doctrine.
