On January 19, 2024, a US court sentenced Conor Brian Fitzpatrick, aka Pompompurin, former BreachForums administrator, to 20 years’ probation. The 21-year-old American cybercriminal will be under house arrest for the first two years of his sentence, with an ankle monitor and no access to Internet.
“Pompompurin” uploaded BreachForums, a stolen database resale platform, in March 2022. The website was meant as an extension of RaidForums, previously closed by US authorities after operating for seven years. The new version used the former website’s graphics and most of its databases. BreachForums lasted a year under Conor Brian Fitzpatrick’s administration, as the young man was arrested in March 2023.
The cybercriminal chose to confess and entered a plea bargain. Under these circumstances, the prosecution requested a 15-year prison sentence for his “enormous involvement” in the spread of cybercrime and the likelihood of repeat offenses. The court kept the defense’s arguments in this closed trial secret. According to Pompompurin’s attorneys, their defense contained medical and confidential information.
Taken down after the arrest of Conor Brian Fitzpatrick, BreachForums was almost immediately put back up by the new admin, Baphomet. The platform continues to operate.
