Because of the mishandling of a Freedom of Information Act request about a cyber attack, the DHS released hundreds of documents that include sensitive information about critical infrastructure installations. The request was regarding the Operation Aurora attack in 2010 that affected Google, Juniper Networks, and Northrop Grumman among others. The DHS subsequently released information about the Aurora ‘experiment’ that demonstrated ways to damage a generator through cyberattacks, rather than the cyberattack believed to originate from China.
