[InfoSecurity] Facebook teams up with Greek police to take down a botnet network

Within a year of creating its own threat information network, Facebook has just taken down its first botnet. The botnet called Lecpetex was first discovered by Microsoft’s Malware Protection Center was rapidly spreading before it was disrupted. The spread through Facebook friends and networks, which made it rather concentrated in the countries it affected. The highest concentration of compromised computers was in Greece, so Facebook provided Greek police with all the necessary information and data, which led to the arrest of two suspects. The suspects were allegedly in the process of establishing a Bitcoin laundering service.
