[KrebsSecurity] Credit card skimmers are becoming increasingly smaller

07 juillet 2014

As technology advances, electronics are becoming smaller and smaller; and this includes ATM skimmers. Miniaturized credit card fraud devices that are placed on ATMs to steal cc information are becoming harder to detect and have longer battery lives. The European ATM Security Team has recently discovered a skimmer that can fit inside the card slot instead of directly on top of the existing slot. While there is a rise of these skimmers, many cards in Europe now include chip & pin technology which makes it much more expensive for criminals to duplicate. As a result most losses have migrated from Europe to countries that still rely on the magnetic strip of the card, such as the United States.
