Net-Security Report shows increase in financial phishing among other trends in cybercriminality

Experts from Kaspersky released a report detailing the latest trends in cybercriminality. There was a 7.9% increase in financial spamming and phishing. The targets of these attacks include major banks, payment services, online stores and similar organizations. The increase brought the financial spamming attacks to 42% of all spamming attacks combined. Secondly, cybercriminals seem to have a particular affinity for PayPal. This service recorded the most dramatic increase in phishing attacks. The top three countries of origin for these attacks continue to be the US, Russia and China. The spam attempts these past several months appeared to be tailored to summer products and activities, which increased the successfulness of the attacks.
