[TheVerge] New Russian law requires businesses to store personal data within Russian territory

The Russian parliament has just passed a law requiring internet companies to store the personal data of Russian citizens in Russia. While many say the law will protect Russian citizens from NSA surveillance, it could facilitate the Russian government’s surveillance programs of its own citizens. If the Internet companies have not repatriated the citizens’ data by 2016, they will be blocked.
