[TheWashingtonPost] Chinese cyber spies hack Middle East experts in the US

08 juillet 2014

A group of Chinese hackers called Deep Panda breached the computers of a number of Middle East experts at major US think tanks. This breach is a ‘radical shift’ in the groups focus as it had typically targeted experts who follow Asia, and came the day of an ISIS assault on a major Iraqi oil refinery. By attacking American think tanks, China is able to better understand American strategy across different continents, and in this case how US involvement in Iraq could affect Chinese oil infrastructure in the country. Deep Panda is believed to have connections to the Chinese government and known for stealthy malware campaigns.
