Created in 2022, this entity was responsible for investigating the causes of major cyber events in the United States.

The new President of the United States, Donald Trump, dismissed all fifteen members of the Cyber Safety Review Board (CSRB) on January 20, 2025. This investigative committee on cyberattacks was established in 2022 as part of the Department of Homeland Security and was tasked with producing detailed reports on major cyber incidents affecting the U.S.

Since November 2024, the committee had been investigating cyber intrusions by Salt Typhoon, a threat actor linked to the Chinese government, targeting several American telecom operators. The CSRB operates under the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), which has come under scrutiny from the new Trump administration.

The newly appointed Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, stated that CISA must become “much more efficient, smaller, and more agile in order to truly fulfill its mission,” which she defines as strictly focused on protecting federal IT systems from intrusions. She also emphasized that CISA should no longer be involved in combating disinformation.
