Hackers have posted "non-sensitive" personal information of 73,000 staff and students from the university on a cybercriminal forum.

Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University revealed to Numerama on October 10, 2024, that it had recently fallen victim to a cyberattack. The incident led to “the extraction of non-confidential data from the university’s public directory.” A hacker posted a file containing the personal information of 73,000 individuals, which they claimed came from the Parisian faculty, on a cybercriminal forum.

“The affected data includes the names and first names of staff and students, their university email addresses, their photos (if consent was given by the user), and their status within the institution (student, teacher, etc.),” explained Paris-Sorbonne.

According to the university, accounts that activated the “Red List” option, which limits data sharing to university staff, were spared from the incident.
