Technology to the rescue of the GDPR

Five years after the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into force, which aims to protect the personal data of EU citizens, technologies can play an important role in ensuring compliance with the principles set out in the regulation.

Tools for anonymization, pseudonymization, access request management, biometrics, and data fragmentation are all assets to comply with this EU legislation. AI can also make compliance with the GDPR easier.

However, the Cloud Act of 2018, which conflicts with the RGPD, allows U.S. authorities to access data stored by U.S. companies outside the U.S. as part of a criminal investigation and for national security reasons.

How can technologies be used in a timely manner to fragment data? How can blockchain store sensitive information such as financial transactions or medical data? How can deeptech help prevent the legal risk associated with the Schrems II ruling’s invalidation of the framework for transatlantic personal data transfer?

Furthermore, what are the limitations of these technological devices? How can they be combined with an adequate security, training and awareness policy?
