06/09 – FIC BREAKFAST @BRUSSELS: “Cybersecurity: priorities for the incoming European Commission”

In the framework of the SecDef Forum and the International Cybersecurity Forum (FIC), CEIS is organising a brainstorm on “Cybersecurity: priorities for the incoming European Commission” on September 6th.

With a number of initiatives launched under the current Commission, and the newly extended mandate of ENISA, cybersecurity remains firmly at the top of the European policy agenda. From digital identity and the advent of 5G to artificial intelligence and the fight against fake news, the list of topics to be tackled is long. What should the incoming European Commission focus on? What do the various stakeholder groups view as their priorities? Can the new Commission leverage some low-hanging fruit for quick wins, and which dossiers are likely to prove more difficult? What alliances should it build to achieve these goals?

This interactive brainstorm will bring together representatives from Member States, EU institutions, civil society and industry to collect input into what the EU’s agenda should be for the next years in cybersecurity. Introductory remarks will be given by Elly van den Heuvel, President of the FIC Advisory Board and Secretary to the Cyber Security Council of The Netherlands, and a representative from the Alliance pour la Confiance Numérique (ACN).The informal and interactive format of the SecDef Forum fosters exchanges on technical and operational issues in view of delivering innovative ideas grounded in end-users’ experience to national and EU policymakers. CEIS launched the SecDef Forum in autumn 2018 to provide a regular opportunity for European security and defence end-users, policy-makers and industry players to exchange technical and operational issues in Brussels. Away from the slogans, the SecDef Forum contributes to the development of sound policy by delivering innovative ideas and concrete recommendations grounded in end-users’ experience to national, EU and NATO policymakers.

The International Cybersecurity Forum (FIC) is the largest European event on cybersecurity, organized with the French Gendarmerie Nationale and the Hauts-de-France region. It brings together a wide variety of actors in the cybersecurity field, from security experts to developers, legal experts or digital transformation players. The FIC aims to create synergies between the private and public sectors, industry and academia.
