The file reportedly contains information from millions of smartphones, including in France, with military tracking data among the records.

A Russian cybercriminal group put up for sale in early January 2025 a massive geolocation data file stolen from Gravy Analytics. This American company collects and sells information on the movements of millions of smartphone users. According to the hackers, the breach has been ongoing since 2018.

The stolen file includes client lists, technical data, and detailed geolocation histories. The cybercriminals have published samples of these sensitive records online. They are demanding a ransom from Gravy Analytics and its subsidiary Venntel to avoid releasing the full dataset.

Among the data broker’s clients mentioned in the samples are Apple, Uber, Comcast, and US government entities. The file reportedly includes military tracking data that could potentially expose intelligence agents. It also contains information on millions of European citizens, including a significant number of French individuals.
