The European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (Enisa) issued a call for applications on October 18, 2024, regarding the future “European Digital Identity Wallets” (EUDI). The agency aims to establish an ad hoc working group to draft a cybersecurity certification scheme for these applications, a mission entrusted to it by the European Commission in spring 2024.
“Enisa invites experts with extensive knowledge and experience in cybersecurity certification, digital wallets, electronic identification, and trust services to apply,” stated the European agency.
Enisa emphasizes that the EUDI wallet is “the EU’s response to digital identification challenges, enabling secure online identification for accessing a wide range of public and private services, as well as the storage, presentation, and sharing of personal identification data and documents, all within an easy-to-access application.”
This cybersecurity certification scheme is intended to ensure that all EUDI wallets issued to European citizens operate safely and uniformly across the EU. It will also guarantee that each national application meets the security requirements set by the regulatory framework established by the 2019 European Cybersecurity Act, which includes significant provisions dedicated to personal data protection and privacy.
