Badge now certifies apps that pass cybersecurity test.

On November 2, 2023, Google unveiled a security badge on the Play Store to certify apps that pass an independent security test. The latter relies on international standards that make it possible to assess an app’s reliability, privacy levels and resistance to malware.

Google thus aims to promote apps that comply with standard good practices in terms of security and protection of privacy. The badge appears in the “Data security” section of the app’s Google Play page.

Eventually, when a user searches a type of service in the Play Store, a banner will highlight apps that have the badge. Google is already experimenting with the procedure for VPN apps. “Our efforts to prioritize security and privacy transparency on Google Play are aligned with the needs and expectations we’ve heard from both users and developers,” stated Google.
