Virtualizing IT equipments delivers a range of benefits including the ability to optimize, consolidate and redistribute available resources throughout the network. Though setting an effective antimalware protection for virtualized environments is as essential as deploying a dedicated protection on the endpoints, it occurs in many cases that security may have a negative impact on the resources and damage the responsiveness of virtual environments on which it is deployed.

As a matter of fact, virtualized environments using a traditional antivirus architecture including the deployment of an antivirus heavy agent on each workstation, are subject to numerous drawbacks. These traditional antivirus use a local database for signatures, consume substantial resources to perform analyzes on each workstation, must be updated on a regular basis, etc. This pointless duplication of the footprint on the system and applications, for analysis and maintenance, leads to resource conflicts known as “AV Storm” that generate bottlenecks and may obstruct the proper functioning of the IT infrastructure.

In order to maintain user experience and the benefits of virtualization, it is essential to outsource and centralize analysis processes and signature databases into a security virtual appliance.

Bitdefender solutions achieve this goal as they were created with this objective and provide an “agentless” protection, with a seamless resource consumption, comprehensively consistent with the use of all market hypervisors, without requiring any extra hardware investments. Thereby, these solutions enable a drastic increase up to 30% of the virtualized server consolidation ratios, when compared to traditional antimalware solutions.
