The cyber threat detection and response firm brings with it a large customer base in Australia and New Zealand

In its continued outward cybersecurity growth, Thales formalized on June 13, 2023, the acquisition of Tesserent, an Australian company specialized in detecting and countering attacks. The French group spent 176 million AUD (111 million EUR) on the Australian gem. In 2022, Tesserent posted 110 million EUR in sales.

The acquisition is doubly strategic for Thales. On one hand it allows the company to strengthen its operations capabilities with new technology and seasoned cyber experts, which are scarce in today’s job market. On the other it provides Thales with a large portfolio of strategic customers in Australia and New Zealand, particularly public sector and defense companies.

Tesserent’s teams of cyber experts, along with the knowhow of our systems engineering specialists, will make Thales Australia a new cyber leader in Australia and New Zealand,” commented Jeff Connolly, head of the French group’s Australian subsidiary.

This acquisition is Thales’ fourth in a year in the cybersecurity sector. In 2022, the company bought both the Spanish group S21sec and the Luxemburg Excellium, for 120 million EUR, as well as the Dutch player OneWelcome, for 100 million EUR.
