In December 2024, U.S. authorities ordered the shutdown of 138 illegal streaming services at the request of the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE). This international association for the protection of audiovisual copyright holders includes about fifty members, notably all major Hollywood studios, as well as leading streaming platforms and pay-TV channels worldwide.
Mostly located in Vietnam, the seized domains broadcast sports content, amassing 800 million annual visits. Two of these platforms, MethStream and CrackStreams, were particularly popular in the United States. Shortly after their closure, the operator of these two services announced they would be “taking a break” from live streaming.
